Custom bumper with full size (33') tire plus stuff for a Nissan Pathfinder - WD21.

I needed a place to keep a full size tire. The 33" barely fit in the back laying down flat. But it eats up allot of room. I haul allot of stuff with my truck and pathfinder. Like stoves, dishwashers etc. I need to keep the back empty. The factory spare tire carrier is very nice. My 88 and 96 pathfinders had them. This 92 did not. I wanted to mount the tire higher for better departure angle.

Parts needed: 3x5 3/16 tube, 1x3" tube, flat stock, 2x2 tube, Hinge, Destaco or similar latch

First step build bumper. 2"x5" 3/16 tube. This will be the base for the Tire carrier.

The brackets that hold the bumper to frame are 1"x3" 3/16. They fit perfectly in the original bumper holes.

Cut a piece for the center piece, then weld on the pre drileld brackets. Then place on corners on saw horses to determine the correct angle.

 The base is done.

Found a tire carrier hinge at A to Z fabrication. Its based on a trailer spindle. (cap included not pictured)

Similar to the D21 version that has proven to be a great bumper. D21 is 2x6 tube, Pathfinder is 2x5.

Here is most of the pieces for the carrier. All 2x2 11gauge.

#40341, Industry Duty, De-Sta-Co Compatible Toggle Clamp. Cross Referenced: De-Sta-Co 341, Carr-Line CL-300-PA

Hinge installed.

Tested

The latch is a destaco clone from ebay. I ended up replacing dipped in plastic handle with bike grip size tube.
