Powertraxx Lock Right 3220 install in a H233b Nissan 31 spline.
I have installed a few of these without issue. I have one in the front dana 44 of my D21 and my wd21. I had a problem with this locker unlocking. Its always locked. It should unlock when it senses you are turning. I had to add new thrust washers to the carrier. $11 each from a online Nissan dealer. Then it would unlock as needed. The instructions just say make sure thrush washers are not worn. The Nissan FSM explains how to measure for wear. There is 3 sizes of washers. I just ordered the middle size and got lucky. I found a way to test locker BEFORE installing in the vehicle.
The instructions are quite small and black and white. No actual pictures of a Nissan H233b in the manual. Just generic instructions.
Here is the basics.
You need an open carrier for this locker. I needed new thrust washers. And rebuild kit. The locker broke the pins with worn thrush washers. UPDATE: I added the thickest thrust washer available.
I removed ring gear (I was installing 4.9s at the same time) and split carrier case. Note the markings on the case before splitting.
Remove cross shaft and spider gears and discard spiders and thrust washers.
Roll the side gears per instructions first with new thrust washers. Install spacer, then Install half of the lock right. Then spacer LR washer.
Grease springs and install in both "locks". Install crossbar. Install another spacer washer.
Install other lock with springs installed. Install the other half of carrier. Should only have the spiders and washers left over.
This is the old worn out thrust washer.
This is the procedure to measure the thrust washer needed.
This is how I tested the lock right BEFORE installing it. I used some spare drum brake axles and stood on the lower one. And turned the upper shaft. It should unlock easily. Clockwise will unlock one side. Counter clock wise will unlock the other side.
On vehicle tests. Put trans in neutral. Raise both wheels of the ground. Turn one wheel SUDDENLY.
