Nissans with VG30E - D21 WD21 etc. |
| This how not to install a belt. Someone put the pulley on the harmonic balancer wrong. There is 6 ways it will bolt up. So the engine did not start. They had to install the distributor and install in the wrong location just to get engine to run. You should never need to move the distributor to change a timing belt. |

The timing is way off. Distributor in wrong to compensate. Idler on too
loose. Pulley on wrong. Just remove everything and install correctly.
The V belt crank pulley has nothing from preventing the technician from installing wrong. So make sure the marks point to timing cover.

This is the correct way a VG30 should be installed. Always line up all the marks. If you are reusing an old belt you have to relabel the belt or count the teeth.
